Here is another great post by Gábor Hojtsy, this time about configuration translation basics. He does a great job explaining why the Drupal 8 configuration system is so helpful for multilingual sites. Check it out!
Today Kyle Hofmeyer from Lullabot posted a basic overview of CMI:
If you would like to help get Drupal 8 to a point where simple changes to configuration -- like the one in Kyle's video -- don't cause fatal errors, check out the issues in the tabs above (Focus Issues, Beta Blocker, etc.), especially Making configuration synchronisation work.
Contrary to popular belief, the Drupal 8 Configuration Management Initiative (CMI) is not done. In fact, there is still a fair amount of work remaining. To help get some momentum, we are going to start holding CMI IRC meetings in #drupal-cmi every other Monday at 20:00 UTC (3pm Eastern). Our next IRC meeting will be Monday, January 13 at 20:00 UTC. Additional meetings will be on January 27, February 10, 24, etc.
Gábor Hojtsy recently posted an excellent "tidbit" that describes how the new configuration system helps improve Drupal's support for foreign language and multilingual sites. It's an excellent read: Drupal 8 multilingual tidbits 14: intro to content and configuration.
Interested in helping out with CMI? This year’s Midwest Drupal Summit (MWDS) will be held August 15-17 at Palantir.net’s offices on Chicago’s North Side and will consist exclusively of well-organized sprints focused on breaking down remaining release blockers and helping to ensure that Drupal 8 is the best and most polished version of Drupal yet.
